With over 30 years of teaching experience and a mixed martial arts background, Sensei Roberson has developed a unique and innovative curriculum that is fun, empowering, and suitable for students of all ages.

Over the years, we taught South Austin students of all ages with a focus on solid martial arts instruction and teaching essential life skills. We first opened in April of 2005 in the Bee Caves area, moved to Athena Montessori Academy and finally our home in the Brodie Oaks shopping center at South Lamar and Ben White. Over the years, we taught hundreds of children and adults in our facilities along with many thousands through seminars and special events in area schools.


We are so proud of the effort shown by our students in their training, and the support they received from their families. Our students embodied our spirit of warriorship with honor, humanity and service to others.

And though we closed our doors at the end of June 2022 with great sadness, we were, in the end, overwhelmed with gratitude that so many were willing to share such an important part of their lives with us and to share our vision of making the world a better place through introspection, courage and community.

My 2 daughters and I have been part of AKA family for quite some time. They teach not only martial arts, but also good manners, mutual respect, leadership skills and fitness. My son has been attending Austin Karate since he was 5 years old and a white belt. He is now 11 years old and a blue belt and on his road on becoming a black belt. He wanted to quit many times but stuck with it with some encouragement from parents. He loves it and loves teaching the younger belts. He looks forward to class every time he goes. The instructors are helpful and encouraging. My son is more disciplined and takes pride in being a part of AKA.

Top notch leadership training that goes far beyond the martial art skills. David, the owner & leader, has a wonderful, family-centric club here. My son loves to go twice a week and learned how to push past some tough physical and mental challenges under Mr Mukherjee's mentorship. He started as a Tiny Tiger and is now 2nd degree black belt and helps teach. Amazing experience for my son.

I believe my mom left a review 4 years ago but Austin Karate Academy has only grown since then! AKA does everything it says it will and more. Discipline, confidence, self-defense, you name it, they have it. It encourages students to practice a healthy and balanced lifestyle and also instills a sense of purpose in young kids.
