Over the years, we taught South Austin students of all ages with a focus on solid martial arts instruction and teaching essential life skills. We first opened in April of 2005 in the Bee Caves area, moved to Athena Montessori Academy and finally our home in the Brodie Oaks shopping center at South Lamar and Ben White. Over the years, we taught hundreds of children and adults in our facilities along with many thousands through seminars and special events in area schools.


We are so proud of the effort shown by our students in their training, and the support they received from their families. Our students embodied our spirit of warriorship with honor, humanity and service to others.

And though we closed our doors at the end of June 2022 with great sadness, we were, in the end, overwhelmed with gratitude that so many were willing to share such an important part of their lives with us and to share our vision of making the world a better place through introspection, courage and community.

My 2 daughters and I have been part of AKA family for quite some time. They teach not only martial arts, but also good manners, mutual respect, leadership skills and fitness. My son has been attending Austin Karate since he was 5 years old and a white belt. He is now 11 years old and a blue belt and on his road on becoming a black belt. He wanted to quit many times but stuck with it with some encouragement from parents. He loves it and loves teaching the younger belts. He looks forward to class every time he goes. Top notch leadership training that goes far beyond the martial art skills. David, the owner & leader, has a wonderful, family-centric club here. My son loves to go twice a week and learned how to push past some tough physical and mental challenges under Mr Mukherjee's mentorship. I believe my mom left a review 4 years ago but Austin Karate Academy has only grown since then! AKA does everything it says it will and more. Third Coast Martial Arts is a family-oriented year round school specializing in Tae Kwon Do and other self-defense techniques. Head Instructors undergo an extensive, fingerprint-based national criminal history background check. All Black Belt instructors have been vaccinated. Masks are optional for all students.

This free class will introduce new students to basic moves and commands of Tae Kwon Do. Ages 4 to adult. Click on the "Free Class" tab above to register.

Third Coast Personal Training can help you reach your fitness goals regardless of your fitness level or age. Personal Training programs include: rehabilitation from surgeries, treatment for debilitating effects of osteoporosis,weight & flexibility training, Specialized programs for teens, adults and mature adults.

Kids who study martial arts were found to perform better in math, be more attentive, have better social skills, and have an easier time focusing in class than those who did not. Taking up some form of martial art was even found to help children mitigate the symptoms of ADD/ADHD, and allow them to perform and behave better at school and at home. Some parents are concerned that teaching kids martial arts may make them violent, but the reverse is actually true. Studies on disadvantaged children from violent homes found that some form of training actually made them less violent than their peers from similar circumstances.
