4worldlovers: The staff has over 80 years experience teaching in the Harvey Penick Golf Academy. Director of Instruction, Jim Hopkins, was one of the original instructors who worked closely with Mr. Penick when the academy started.
We have a number of weekend dates available. We also can accommodate almost any group if you have a different date in mind.
There is always a 3 to 1 student to teacher ratio or better. All academies are kept small so we can give each student as much individual attention as possible.

From 1993 until 2009, the Penick Academy was held at Golfsmith and had well over 20,000 students attend. Now, under the leadership of DIrector of Instruction Jim Hopkins, it continues to help students increase their enjoyment of the great game of golf. Our goal is simple: provide the absolute best golf academy for all level of golfers.

David Sherby: Wes' re-direction on a few of my tee-box driving mechanics had an immediate and positive effect not just during practice but in my latest rounds. I am amazed at how far and straight I am driving the ball now - it's like a whole new game. The confidence it has given me carried over to the rest of my game. I broke 80 in my first round after my intro lesson - I had not done that in a year. Wes is also a cool dude to work with, too - I genuinely have a good time on the range during our lesson. I highly recommend him!
Ciaran Maher: so I was able to see gradual improvement all the time. We had a good mix of lesson types as well - pure range work, bunkers, chipping, putting as well as course instruction. If I was not moving away from the city, I would continue to meet with him without hesitation. He also does a good free intro lesson where he talks you through areas he would work on first to give you maximum benefit. Really good guy, strongly recommend Wes.
Greg Morrow: and simple drills to get his point across.
calvin lee: I recently began working with Wes. His ability to communicate instruction by telling stories or painting a picture has helped me understand my natural golf swing beyond comprehension. He focuses on a couple of basic fundamentals for me to work on each lesson. The proof: positive results in the form of better ball striking than I could imagine and golf being 'fun'...and I look forward to continued improvement.
R Hyde: . He's very friendly and easy to get along with and really is attentive to his students. Its been a great experience working with Wes and we plan to continue using him.
Douglas Ferrell: . I realize it is a longer process than I originally expected but I have improved by 10-15 strokes per round with several opprotunities to shoot sub-40 nine hole scores. I plan to continue working with Wes over the long run as his methods are worth more than any equipment, training tools, or videos.
Byron French: I took a series of 6 lessons from Wes. He is a great teacher and I saw a lot of improvement in my golf game.

GrounDDwellers BJJCSL: Great Course to take friends to. They have a driving area. They have carts to rent. Staff is very helpful and fun. Course is maintained well. Lots of challenging holes but fun to play. Easy to navigate the course. Has multiple spots to tee off from for all experience levels. Definitely a quiet spot that has great views.
Mark Nealon: Great place to either learn the game, or hone your skills. For us, it was a warm up after flying in to Austin and I was quite pleasantly surprised at just how tricky the 9 holes were from the back tees. Add to the fact that the wind was gusting to over 30mph and more, and instead of a nice easy warm up session, it turned into a real challenge. Very friendly staff just adds to the overall great experience.

Upon arriving, I discovered I reserved for the wrong day, but the staff was accommodating, allowing me to enjoy their well-maintained course. The greens and fairways were excellent, reflecting the staff's dedication to upkeep. The pace of play was impressive.In addition, witnessing the youth in their first tee program added to the overall positive experience. shaun gonzalez: Wow. What a transformation. I played here 3 years ago and it was dumpster fire on a beach. I can’t believe the shape this course is in now. From tee to green it’s in great shape. Don’t come at me comparing this to a country club. If you play golf on public courses in Austin then you will be pleasantly surprised. Good job Harvey Penick team. They also have a short course that’s 3 holes.
