The techniques used in individual and couples therapy at the Austin Center for CBT are backed by extensive research. At the beginning of therapy, we tailor a plan of treatment for you and your goals, then help you implement and practice new skills. Under the umbrella of CBT, we provide several distinct treatment options, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Schema Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and sex therapy. Austin Center for CBT was founded by Dr. Tamara Bryan, a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience providing CBT to individuals and couples. In addition to psychotherapy, we also offer CBT resources to the public and supervision to other clinicians.

Together, we create a personalized plan of treatment for your unique challenges and goals. This treatment plan is informed by current research findings as well as your priorities and preferences. Typically, CBT involves focusing on thoughts and behaviors that lead to difficulties, then learning new skills and strategies to help you better navigate challenging situations and emotions. Practicing and refining skills between sessions for homework is a fundamental element of CBT.

For over 20 years, Dr. Tamara Bryan has provided cognitive behavioral treatment for OCD, panic, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, depression, postpartum depression, relationship issues, and sexual issues. She has utilized the Gottman treatment approach with couples since 1996.

Dr. Bryan earned her bachelor of arts with honors in psychology from Brown University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She received her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Kansas.

During her internship at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, Dr. Bryan provided individual and group CBT and DBT. After internship, she provided consultations, evaluations, and group therapy in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Bryan completed her Post-doctoral Fellowship at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and eventually served as a supervising psychologist there for several years.

At Columbia University’s Social Intervention Group, Dr. Bryan oversaw a Process Measures and Quality Assurance team for a NIMH-funded research project involving African American, serodiscordant, heterosexual couples.

After moving to Austin, Dr. Bryan served as the Director of Adult Services at the Austin Center for the Treatment of OCD. In 2013, she founded the Austin Center for CBT. Dr. Bryan has maintained a private practice since 2002.

Dr. Bryan has lectured to clinicians and trainees on a variety of topics related to CBT. She has supervised psychology trainees and post-doctoral fellows as well as psychiatry residents. Dr. Bryan’s research interests have focused on sexual behavior and communication.
